Many publications and networks claim that Trump supporters planned an insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, but ask the red “MAGA” hat wearers who proudly cover themselves in red, white and blue and shout “America First” and you will get an entirely different response.
In their opinion, “Stop the Steal” was not based on outlandish conspiracy theories, or”Q-anon rabbit holes”. Their overall frustration and utter dedication to their belief lies in the fact that democratic states did, in fact, alter a slew of election laws prior to November 3rd that in turn, granted them many advantages. This is a fact that no one can deny. Even Time published a controversial article entitled “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election”. Saved, as in, gave Democrats the win and put Joe Biden into the President’s seat.
“That’s why the participants want the secret history of the 2020 election told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream–a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information. They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it. And they believe the public needs to understand the system’s fragility in order to ensure that democracy in America endures”, states the article in its’ closing paragraph.
Such “fortification” is what Trump supporters label the “steal”. Hundreds of thousands of ballots were accepted in the 2020 election due to swift, last-minute and, in some cases, unconstitutional law changes that by-passed the proper order of approval. Ballot harvesting is illegal but occurred. Ballots that are illegible get adjudicated in every election at an expected rate of less than 1% of the total ballots in the county. This means that the machine or whoever is accepting the ballot cannot properly make out the candidate winner, so they have to essentially “choose” who they think the ballot was cast for. In the 2020 election, certain counties, especially in the swing states, had adjudication rates at upwards of 80%. Why? These are just a small portion the questions that many Conservatives requested answers to, in order to feel confident in the election process. It was a variety of different little tweaks in the process that made Trump supporters question the validity and integrity of the 2020 election.
Censorship on social media remained prominent prior and post election for Conservative viewpoints, with posts either fully removed or “fact-checked” by leftist run-organizations, created by democrats to “fortify” what they themselves desired to promoters truth. Mainstream media networks and journalists repeatedly aired and published anti-Conservative, anti-Trump segments and articles, without maintaining the “unbiased” approach that is expected of them. Of course, that is, unless it is a commentator or opinion piece.
The Washington Post was and still is a huge proponent of President Biden and democratic ideologies, constantly referring to Trump supporters as “conspiracy theorists” and “insurrectionists”.Of course, the company is owned by Democratic billionaire and Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, who is a staunch supporter of the Biden campaign.
To Trump supporters, the “Stop the Steal” movement is opposite of what the media portrayed them to represent. The “Make America Great Again” slogan is not about overthrowing a government they don’t agree with, nor is it founded on the demolishment of democracy or “racist, white supremicist” ideologies. It encompasses a strong desire for “America, First” (ie: no sending billions of dollars to other countries to develop their programs when the American citizens suffer daily from homelessness, run-down cities, small business closures), patriotism, freedom, democracy, and upholding the Constitution. That means playing by the rules that our Forefathers laid out.
January 6, to the majority of Trump supporters, was a time to peacefully protest at the home of our government. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered proudly and patriotically to “make their voices heard”. A desire to “keep America great” and free of government infringement or interference in the election and withhold our democracy was the true purpose. Many Conservative Americans desired was a 10-day forensic audit by a neutral party to investigate the election. A simple audit, or a recount, or a hand count does not take into account every detail as a forensic audit does.
The electoral college, in Trump supporters’ opinions, had the chance to prove that the election was won fairly. The thousands that gathered in Washington January 6 existed to peacefully represent their view of a “stolen” or unconstitutionally “fortified” election and their desire for a true investigation. Not to riot. Not to get violent. The numbers in the crowd alone would do the talking.
However, the mainstream media does not show the other side to the story. It is unfortunate, at minimum. The most popular news sources simply repeat one thing and one thing only: that Trump supporters came to Washington to terrorize and destroy the institution of democracy. Now, did some people go to Capitol Hill with ill intentions? Without a doubt. It’s impossible to declare that every single person there was there with the same goal in mind. We do know for a fact that there were Antifa, and BLM members there at the forefront of the crowd breaking into the Capitol building. Why? That is unknown.
The media needs to portray both sides to the story and let the American people decide for themselves, versus repeatedly pushing one narrative and one narrative only, while declaring the other side “conspiracy theorists”, “insurrectionists” and “white-nationalists”.
Many “Trump haters” simply oppose the man because they think he is “racist” based off of false, edited media clips. Trump talking about Central American gang “MS-13” crossing our borders and being murderers and rapists is a fact, yet the media edited out Trump stating the name of the group, and shortened the clip to make it look as if he was talking about immigrants at the border. The media also used a clip of Trump saying that white supremacists were horrible people, and shortened the clip to make it seem as if he was calling Neo-Nazis “very fine people”. To this day, a huge percentage of “anti-Trumpers” truly believe he said these things. Where is the accountability in the media to portray a situation with 100% reality, in the correct context? The full speech, unedited, without manipulating footage to push a certain narrative, which is the total opposite of the truth?
In the impeachment trial, Trump lawyers showed a video of democrat leaders’ political speeches throughout the years, saying things like “fight like hell” and “make them pay”. The riots were encouraged by prominent democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. Hillary Clinton claimed the 2016 election was “stolen” from her on multiple occasions. Democrats discussed their fears of using electronic voting machines due to their “lack of paper trail” and increased probability of errors. They vocally objected to the certification of Republican Presidents. They criticized impeaching anyone without the absolute need. They pushed a Russia hoax conspiracy theory for years and spent millions investigating Trump based off the phony “Steel Dossier” based on what we now know to be a lie.
These are just the facts. Do with them what you will.
Let the American people make up their own mind and if they come to the same conclusion as the Democratic (or Republican) journalists opinions at the finale of their own personal critical thinking, then that is their decision. Journalism has become opinion based and entirely one-sided and needs to push beyond the close-minded mentality. As the saying goes, “there are two truths to every story”, even in politics.
